For 20 years, The Fast and the Furious franchise has captivated audiences. The most recent installment, F9: The Fast Saga, released in 2021. Spring of 2023 can not come soon enough, as the current release date for Fast 10 is May 19.

Each movie in the franchise has had varying degrees of success, but one thing that has never changed: eagle-eyed fans discussing the details of cars, characters, and continuity. No matter if a watcher is a long-time fan or new to the franchise, it is fun to peruse the Reddit threads dedicated to these movies.
Gassing Up
Gas prices are always a hot topic, and with the amount of driving and racing in the franchise, the fact that Dom and the family never stop to fill their tank is not lost on watchers. Reddit user, TheWarrior2336 pointed out that “none of the fast and furious movies have the characters stopping for gas.”
But Redditor Gambit3le argued this point by mentioning that “the beginning of Fast 4 has them hijacking a fuel truck. If that’s not getting gas I don’t know what is.” A private gas reserve sounds ideal for drivers like this. The franchise gets increasingly ridiculous, in a fun way, so the fact that they own their own oil tanker to gas up off-screen makes total sense in-universe.
Brotherly Love
Characters come and go through the series. In F9, movie-goers are introduced to an estranged brother of Dominic and Mia Toretto.
The problem with this brother, as Reddit user tonybaloney32 points out, is that “… the fact of Dom having a brother contradicts a scene FF4 where Mia says Dom is her only brother.” One could argue that with the emotional distance, the brother was no longer a part of the family, but the Redditor still brings up a good point.
Justice For Han
One of the biggest fan-favorite characters, Han, dies in Fast & Furious 6. But he made a return in the ninth installment and Redditor TotallyJustBaco reminds readers that “looking back on how he died, he could have had enough time before the car exploded to scurry away.”
Marking the return of director Justin Lin, Han takes a central role to continue his character arc. Lin’s first Fast film was Tokyo Drift, which featured nearly a whole new cast. This installment was a large deviation from the original story and many fans identify it as their favorite in the series.
Fast To The Future
Back to the Future features one of the most iconic cars in cinema history. But next to the DeLorean, McFly’s vest is a recognizable article of clothing.

Reddit users SanLucos and richy923 pointed out a nod to the ’80s movie franchise in F9. Earl, played by Jason Tobin, rocked the life jacket-looking vest as a nod to the classic. Some might call this a stretch, but these Redditors were happy to have caught the wink and were “glad to see someone else point this out too!”
It’s All Connected
The spin-off movies are numerous, to the point where some movie fans do not know that a movie is part of the Fast timeline. Many short films are also attributed to the overall FF universe.
Redditor Jkorykowski001 breaks down how and why Annapolis is part of the Fast universe by saying it “…overlaps with Better Luck Tomorrow and thus, Fast and the Furious via the character ‘Loo.'” Overall, this movie does not impact the main storyline but still connects to the universe. For die-hard fans of the franchise, these off-shoots offer more detail into the Fast world, as a whole.
Respect Is More Important
From the first film, respect has been an ongoing theme throughout the series. Redditor ThaGriffman noticed a callback made by Dom Toretto saying “your respect is enough for me.”
In the first movie, after Brian pink slips his car and asks for respect if he wins his race, he is met with laughter from the group. Brian focuses on Dom and tells him that respect is worth more to some than money. It turned out to be a bonding moment for Brian O’Connor and Dom Toretto.
Avengers And The Furious
An enjoyable part of long-running franchises is when actors overlap and the productions make references to one another. For example, the MCU is so vast that callbacks can be spotted across several genres.

Reddit user real-eyes noticed some MCU shoutouts: “I like the Avengers references everyone kept making towards Hobbs.” Hobbs, played by The Rock, was called the Hulk, Captain America, and Samoan Thor. These quick references can be missed so fans have to listen closely. The Rock will be seen in Fast 10, as well as DC’s upcoming Black Adam.
Drifting In From Anime
In the 2006 FF offering, Tokyo Drift, the franchise introduced new characters and exciting car scenes. This movie showcased Japanese film stars, as well as a cameo the original drift king, Keiichi Tsuchiya.
Reddit user SynkG pointed out the use of a car made famous from a manga. “…you can see a Toyota Trueno AE86, a car made famous by the hit manga/anime Initial D, which was mostly about drifting.” The manga is by Shuichi Shigeno and is an ongoing series.
Streets Closed Pizza Boy
Fan theories discuss the merits of the pizza delivery guy’s importance in the series. That detail is not what Reddit is noticing, however.
User clutchkickmurphys pointed out this detail in this scene by saying, “You can see the director of the movie Rob Cohen make a cameo as the “pizza” boy as Leon and Hector block off the road in the first street race.” Many fans might be thinking that the delivery better make it to the family in 30 minutes or less.
Pop Up Cameo
Celebrities come out of the woodwork in droves to be part of a huge movie franchise and The Fast series is no different. Several musicians, crew members, and car experts can be spotted in small roles.
Often said to be the worst cameo, Cardi B’s character has many callbacks and references made to her connection to Dom. However, Redditor TheBestAround007 argues that “there was nothing I mean absolutely nothing that indicated that Dom was close with her character.” Story continuity will always be called out in these threads.
