The Louis Leterrier-directed Fast X will see Charlize Theron return as Cipher yet again, but the real overarching Fast & Furious villain might have been hiding in plain sight since Furious 7. The 2023 movie looks like the most epic Fast & Furious film yet, as not only is Fast X the first of a two-part finale, but it introduces a ton of new characters too. Jason Momoa will play the new villain Dante Reyes, who is the son of Fast Five’s Hernan Reyes, tying the whole franchise together. Between his get-up and his theatricality, Dante is the most exciting villain in the Fast & Furious franchise yet.
As it stands, there are almost as many villains in the Fast & Furious franchise as there are members of Dom’s crew. Cipher is easily the most sinister villain and the only one who has an overarching narrative in the franchise. However, between Leterrier saying that multiple characters will switch sides and Michelle Rodriguez revealing that the movie has a massive cliffhanger, all signs point to one huge reveal about Mr. Nobody (Kurt Russell), and it’d actually make total sense. As Fast X: Part 2 will be released in 2025, there’s a lot of evidence that points to the fact that Mr. Nobody could be the series’ Thanos-level threat.

Mr. Nobody Has God’s Eye, The EMP & Project Aries In Fast & Furious

Mr. Nobody has quietly been collecting all the major tech Fast & Furious villains have weaponized. In Furious 7, Mr. Nobody hired Dom and his crew to retrieve God’s Eye, a specialized hacking device that was created by Ramsey. God’s Eye is the ultimate satellite tracking device, as the device’s user can hack absolutely any piece of technology. In Fate of the Furious, Dom and company steal the EMP from Germany. The EMP is an electromagnetic bomb that transmits pulses of energy that can warp any electrical device, which, of course, ended up in the hands of Mr. Nobody too.
In F9, Mr. Nobody faked Han’s death in order to retrieve Project Aries. Project Aries is a weapons program that can control the entire world’s computers and weapons systems, and it can override anything that runs on code. Ramsey herself explained, “If it operates on zeros and ones, it’s vulnerable. If you take Aries and upload it to a satellite, it’ll spread like a virus.” Project Aries passed hands countless times, and its current owner is unknown, but it’d hardly be surprising if it ended back in Mr. Nobody’s giant warehouse. That means that Mr. Nobody has everything he needs to start World War III if he wanted to.
Mr. Nobody Has Always Been Using Dom & His Family
Mr. Nobody’s agency will clearly have a huge role in the upcoming movie, as Scott Eastwood is returning as Little Nobody and Brie Larson plays new Fast X character, Mr. Nobody’s daughter, Tess. Though it seems like Tess is on Dom’s side, she could be repeating her father’s actions, as Mr. Nobody totally used Dom. Mr. Nobody has never seriously had Dom’s interest or safety in mind, and Mr. Nobody used Dom to collect the cyber weapons he needed. Its conditional love on the highest level, as Mr. Nobody dangles cool vehicles in front of the crew and expects them to parachute out of a plane in those very vehicles.
Even Mr. Nobody’s involvement with Han was questionable, as he faked Han’s death to retrieve Project Aries. As the sequence created more questions than answers, it was nothing more than an apathetic venture for Mr. Nobody until proven otherwise. Leterrier revealed that characters will switch sides in Fast X, so Tess could be something of a double agent for her father. That would explain why Dom has only ever had the help of Mr. Nobody’s agency when it benefits Mr. Nobody. The mysterious character exploited Dom’s love of Corona and immediately had the street racer in his pocket as soon as he gave Dom a bucket full of the beer.
Mr. Nobody’s Villain Twist Could Be Fast X’s Teased Cliffhanger
Rodriguez revealed that Fast X has a huge cliffhanger, which leads into Fast X: Part 2. A lot of theories have been thrown around about what the actor could be hinting at, speculating everything from a crossover with Jurassic World to a Fast & Furious multiverse. However, realistically, the cliffhanger will be a lot more grounded than that, or at least grounded by Fast & Furious standards. Fast X’s cliffhanger could be the reveal that Mr. Nobody is the real overarching villain of the franchise. Given that Kurt Russell isn’t officially part of the cast, this plot twist would explain why the studio might be keeping his role under wraps.
Though Mr. Nobody appeared in a flashback in F9, Mr. Nobody has been laying low ever since Fate of the Furious. As a result, Mr. Nobody revealing himself at the end of Fast X as the real villain, who had been pulling the strings the whole time, would make for a truly shocking cliffhanger. As Mr. Nobody was ambushed and shot by Deckard Shaw in the warehouse in Furious 7, the mysterious character could even have planned that ambush and hired Shaw himself. Few things are as equally grounded and typically Fast & Furious double-crossing than that.
Mr. Nobody Being A Fast & Furious Villain Would Be A Huge Payoff
The Fast & Furious franchise has never been known for its clever writing, as each consecutive release has more plotholes than the last and requires more and more suspension of disbelief. However, Fast X has an interesting story involving Dante Reyes avenging his father’s death, as Hernan Reyes was killed in Fast Five, and the story hints that the studio and producers might actually have had an overarching plan this whole time. The possibility that Mr. Nobody could be the series’ overarching villain further proves this, and it’d be a huge payoff and retroactively make Fate of the Furious and F9 better movies.
It’s no secret that the eighth and ninth movies left a lot to be desired following the great Furious 7, but a Mr. Nobody villain plot twist in Fast X could make the previous films’ thin plots way more layered. Rewatching those movies with the knowledge that Mr. Nobody is a villain, and that Dom and his crew are playing into Mr. Nobody’s tricks by collecting the tools for his master plan, would totally raise the stakes. However, while Fast X has a huge cast, Russell still isn’t confirmed to reprise his role as Mr. Nobody, so the character could remain a total enigma.
