‘Chapter 4 of John Wick’ Rescheduled for 2023

Fans of Keanu Reeves’ titular hitman will have to wait a bit longer for the next part as his quest for revenge continues. Lionsgate said on Wednesday that the action film will be delayed by nearly a year from its original May 27, 2022 release date. According to a new video teaser, “John Wick: Chapter 4” will now be released in theatres on March 24, 2023.
The fourth instalment in the “John Wick” franchise, directed by Chad Stahelski, starring Reeves, Donnie Yen, Laurence Fishburne, Lance Reddick, Bill Skarsgrd, Rina Sawayama, Shamier Anderson, and Ian McShane. The screenplay was written by Michael Finch and Shay Hatten, with Stahelski, Basil Iwanyk, and Erica Lee producing and Reeves and Louise Rosner serving as executive producers.
The “John Wick” franchise has grossed over $584.9 million worldwide, with “Chapter 3 – Parabellum” earning a franchise-high $327 million. “Top Gun: Maverick” was moved back to May 27, 2022 in September, with the relocation to Memorial Day weekend moving actor Tom Cruise’s other series picture “Mission: Impossible 7” to September 30, 2022. With the following postponement of “John Wick,” the action film’s current opening weekend opponent is Sony’s yet-to-be-titled George Foreman biographical.
The news of “John Wick’s” postponement comes as Reeves celebrates the premiere of the fourth instalment of “The Matrix,” another of the actor’s most recognisable properties. On Wednesday, “The Matrix Resurrections” was released in cinemas and began streaming on HBO Max.
At one time, “The Matrix Resurrections” and “John Wick 4” were scheduled to hit cinemas on the same day — May 21, 2021 — until “Matrix” was pushed back to December due to COVID-19’s impact on production schedules.
After wrapping up his role as Neo in Lana Wachowski’s Matrix sequel, Reeves began filming on “John Wick 4” in June 2021. Stahelski, who worked as Reeves’ stunt double and stunt supervisor on the original trilogy, appears as Chad in “The Matrix Resurrections” as an Easter egg for observant fans.
