In a new behind-the-scenes video, Vin Diesel and Fast & Furious 10 aka Fast X director Justin Lin promote the picture. The new logo and title for the newest instalment in the Fast and Furious franchise (Fast X), which is the first of a two-part finale to the franchise’s primary plot, were recently announced.
Michelle Rodriguez, Ludacris, Tyrese Gibson, Sung Kang, and Nathalie Emmanuel return to the franchise they helped make famous as Dominic Toretto and are joined by series regulars Michelle Rodriguez, Ludacris, Tyrese Gibson, Sung Kang, and Nathalie Emmanuel (and perhaps a few returning surprises).
Newcomers to the franchise include Jason Momoa as the primary villain, Daniela Melchior from The Suicide Squad in an unidentified part, and Brie Larson in yet another mystery role. After a sabbatical following Fast & Furious 6, director Lin returned to the franchise with last year’s F9, returning to the franchise after a hiatus following Fast & Furious 6.
Furious 7 was directed by James Wan, whereas The Fate of the Furious was directed by F. Gary Gray. Lin will now helm the last two instalments of the Fast & Furious franchise’s core plot, which will conclude in Fast & Furious 11.
Diesel and Lin promoted the upcoming instalment in the Fast and Furious franchise in a new video from the set of Fast X, saying that they had just completed week one of filming. Lin responds that it “feels like the beginning of an epic ending” to Diesel’s question, but the actor doesn’t let him get away with it.
He nudges Lin once again, asking whether he believes Fast X would be the greatest, which elicits a strong affirmative response from Lin, who answers, “In my heart, yeah,” causing Diesel to “Ooo.” Take a look at the entire conversation below:
Diesel has been using social media to promote The Fast & The Furious franchise for a while now, and has even used it to try to entice co-stars back, including Dwayne Johnson, who has refused to return to the main franchise after a falling out with the actor (he instead starred in the first spinoff, Hobbs & Shaw). Despite the absence of Johnson and the tragic death of series regular Paul Walker shortly after the release of Furious 7, the series has enough new blood to keep things intriguing, especially with Momoa and Larson joining the battle.
Other franchise regulars, such as Jason Statham, Charlize Theron, Kurt Russell, and others, might appear. No doubt, the company and the filmmakers will go to great lengths to ensure a successful conclusion, thus additional casting announcements are expected to follow.
There’s no denying the juggernaut that is The Fast & The Furious franchise, acting as Universal Pictures’ biggest moneymaker next to the Jurassic World franchise. It’s hard to believe that the franchise will actually end at the conclusion of the eleventh film, as box office will no doubt dictate what continues and what doesn’t. While the main story may be coming to a close, it’s the safest bet in town that there will be more films carrying the Fast & The Furious name well beyond the final film in the series.
While it may or may not feature Diesel, have spinoffs, or take a different route entirely, the Fast & Furious brand is expected to continue, with Fast & Furious 10 or Fast X serving as the next major chapter. If previous film office results are any indicator, Fast X will undoubtedly draw large crowds to theatres.
