F9: The Fast Saga sets up a lot of story threads for Fast and Furious 10. Before the film’s release, it was announced that the tenth Fast and Furious film would be split into two parts, similar to Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. That means there’s still a lot of absurd action coming for the Fast family, and must of those plot beats have already been set up in F9.
Like The Fate of the Furious before it, F9 takes a more big-picture approach to its story. The Fate of the Furious introduced Charlize Theron’s Cipher as the series’ new main villain, retconning the events of both Fast & Furious 6 and Furious 7 by revealing that she had been pulling the strings from the shadows all along. That larger scale has allowed the franchise to go to even more ridiculous places with its story and action scenes, with F9 being perhaps the most absurd Fast and Furious film yet.

Fast & Furious 10 Will Give Justice For Han

Like most major franchise blockbusters these days, F9: The Fast Saga has a post-credits scene. In it, Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw character – the man who tried unsuccessfully to kill Han Lue in Furious 7 – is confronted by Han himself. The scene cuts to black before either character has a chance to speak, but the implication is clear – Han has come to claim justice for the crime Deckard committed against him.
F9 does a strong job of bringing Han back into the fold and making him central to the story once again. But it doesn’t truly give him the justice fans have been asking for. By having him confront Shaw in the film’s final show, F9 promises that Han’s story is far from over. Whether or not his feud with Shaw will wrap up in a way that satisfies fans remains to be seen, but it looks like Fast and Furious 10 will at least address their conflict head-on. Some fans are even speculating that the two characters could be the leads in a new F&F spinoff akin to Hobbs & Shaw, expanding their story and their role in the final two core films.
Cipher Will Still Be The Villain In Fast & Furious 10
Sometime between The Fate of the Furious and F9, Cipher is apprehended by Mr. Nobody. She’s busted out by Jakob and his crew at the start of F9, however, and she’s once again at large by the end of the film. With Fast and Furious building toward a major climax in the next two movies, it makes a lot of sense for the series to keep Cipher around as a Thanos-esque main villain. Fast and Furious 10 will likely see her pursuing some new world-endangering scheme, prompting Dom and the crew to stop her once again. It’s also possible that Cipher could come after Fast family directly, as payback for the numerous times they’ve disrupted her plans. All that’s completely certain is that Cipher is still a major threat.

Jakob Will Join The Family In Fast & Furious 10
By the end of F9: The Fast Saga, Dom and Jakob make amends for their past transgressions and seem to reaccept each other as brothers. However, because of Jakob’s global crimes, which presumably include murder, espionage, and trying to take over every computer system on the planet, they can’t remain together. The Toretto family is broken up again just as it’s reformed, with Jakob driving off into the sunset towards a life of running from the law.
Obviously, Jakob’s story in the Fast and Furious franchise is far from over. He’ll certainly play a big role in the story of Fast and Furious 10, and could even properly join the family. Most of the series’ main characters have been wanted fugitives at one time or another, and since Deckard Shaw was seemingly forgiven for his crimes against Dom and the crew, it seems like no transgression is unforgiven in the Fast universe. With Cipher still on the loose and a love of family back in Jakob’s heart, it should be interesting to see how he factors into the next movie.
Will The Tokyo Drift Crew Return In Fast & Furious 10?
Tokyo Drift has always been the odd movie out in the franchise, starring characters who, other than Han, have never been important to the overall story. F9 changes that by bringing back Sean, Twinkie and Earl as a team of experimental mechanics and officially admitting them to the family in the film’s final scene. Those characters weren’t exactly the most compelling or complex in Tokyo Drift, but as supporting characters bent on constructing the most ridiculous cars imaginable in F9, they actually become fun additions to the Fast world.
If the Tokyo crew is brought back in Fast and Furious 10, which seems likely, they could be the key to bringing the franchise even bigger and sillier action set pieces. Sean, Twinkie and Earl basically serve as substitutes for Mr. Nobody’s shadow organization in F9 – the narrative explanation for why Dom and the crew have access to cars and tools that border on science fiction. The Tokyo Drift characters have never been better than they are in F9, and bringing them back in the next movie could open up some really fun possibilities.

Will Mr. Nobody Return In Fast & Furious 10?
Kurt Russell returns as Mr. Nobody in F9, but only for a few brief scenes, including one in which he recorded an SOS message to Dom and the crew. Mr. Nobody is nowhere to be seen at the crash site of his airplane, and he doesn’t appear anywhere else in the movie either. The natural assumption is that Mr. Nobody is dead, and that may indeed be the case. However, as a secret agent in one of the most ludicrous franchises Hollywood has ever seen, it seems more likely that he’s just waiting in the background for the right moment to return. If the next two F&F films are going to be as climactic as the cast and crew have said, it seems likely that Mr. Nobody will be back to battle against Cipher and the forces of evil. Or maybe his rescue will be the thing that forces Dom back into action one more time.
Will Brian Appear In Fast & Furious 10?
Because of Paul Walker’s death, his Brian O’Conner character has effectively been written out of the Fast and Furious franchise. The series has done an admirable job of paying respect to the star, however, and F9 continues that trend with a closing shot of Brian’s signature blue Nissan Skyline. It seems likely that references and offscreen homages will be the most Brian will get for the rest of the series, out of respect for Walker and a desire not to recast the character. However, it also seems like a challenge to give real closure to the Fast story without bringing Brian back. In all likelihood, Brian will continue to have a narrative role in Fast and Furious 10, but one that will probably still refrain from any actual face time. Furious 7 and F9 have both done impressive jobs of paying tribute to Walker while also incorporating bits of Brian, and it should be interesting to see how the character plays into the last two films.
