It can be argued Luke Hobbs (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) is the character that revolutionized the Fast & Furious franchise. After his introduction in Fast Five, the franchise stopped being just about racing. It embraced themes of espionage and like Bond or Ethan Hunt, the main characters began globetrotting on the regular.

The introduction of Hobbs also brought much-needed humor into the franchise. Prior to his arrival, Roman Pierce was the only source of jokes. Dom only stuck to what he does best, which is driving and beating up people. Fans can generally agree that it’s always fun seeing an action figure who can not only fight but also make viewers laugh like Hobbs does with these lines.
“Yo, Shrinkage! We’ve Got A Sub To Catch. Get in!”

Roman is on top comedic form in The Fate Of The Furious. During the crew’s mission in the frozen tundra of Russia, he tries to read Russian writing on a submarine and even considers quitting the mission altogether. He argues that he is not generally a quitter and even women back in America can attest to that.
Hobbs isn’t here for all Roman’s rumblings. As a chase is going on, he tells Roman to hop in because they have to get to a submarine to catch before Cipher does some damage with it. The best part about the scene is Hobbs calling Roman “shrinkage” since he’s freezing in ice.
“I’m Trying To Save The World, Which, For The Record, Will Be My Fourth Time, Cause I’m Good At It.”
In Hobbs & Shaw, Deckard Shaw and Luke Hobbs get into an argument on a plane. Shaw still doesn’t want Hobbs to accompany him anywhere due to their not-so-friendly history. Shaw also doesn’t think that Hobbs is cut out for intelligence work.
He lets Hobbs know that the job requires stealth yet he sticks out due to his physique. Hobbs isn’t one to sit there and let anyone throw shade at him. He reminds Shaw that he has saved the world multiple times and this will be his fourth. In as much as Shaw is criticizing him, his record is better.
“You Don’t Just Pick Up Shaw Like He’s Groceries.”
In Fast & Furious 6, Hobbs interrogates a prisoner about Owen Shaw’s whereabouts. The prisoner refuses to talk at first but after a beating from Hobbs, he reveals that Owen is in London.

DSS agent Riley Hicks tells Hobbs that they should go pick up Owen quickly before he moves to another city. Hobbs explains to her that Owen isn’t someone you just go and pick up as he’ll most definitely get the better of you. He thus comes up with a plan to get a team as well as weapons.
“Your Mistake Is Thinking You Have A Go***mn Choice.”
Hobbs tries to arrest Dom’s crew when he first corners them in Rio but they resist. He believes that they killed a group of feds even though the city’s crime kingpin Hernan Reyes was the man responsible. Dom argues that he doesn’t feel like he’s under arrest. Brian hilariously reiterates the same thing.
Hobbs sarcastically remarks that the arrest will sink in after a few minutes. Still, Dom and Brian refuse to be taken in, making Hobbs angry in the process.
“If You Keep Running Your Piehole, You’re Gonna Smell An A**-Kicking.”
When Hobbs seeks the services of Dom’s team in Furious 6, Roman isn’t too happy about it. After all, he’s always been skeptical about all missions the crew has ever engaged in.
He complains to Brian that the Rio job should have been their last and that they shouldn’t have to work for someone who applies baby oil on his body. The burn is indeed hilarious and Hobbs responds the best way he knows how. He promises Roman a beating if he continues running his mouth.
“Make Sure You’ve Got Your Thunderwear On.”
One of Fast Five’s best scenes is when Hobbs gathers a law enforcement team to hunt down Dom and his crew. He lets them known who they’ll be dealing with. He clues them in, telling them that the crew loves speed and they won’t go down without a fight.

Given how fast Dom’s crew will be moving, Hobbs advises everyone to have their thunderwear on at all times. There’s obviously not a word like thunderwear but trust Hobbs to come up with his own vocabulary. The speech is all in vain though as Dom’s crew easily outsmart Hobbs’ band of lawmen.
“I Am The Cavalry.”
During a street battle scene with Deckard Shaw in Furious 7, Hobbs shows up by himself, holding a high-caliber weapon. A concerned Letty inquires whether he brought his fellow officers aka the cavalry. Hobbs confidently lets her know that there is no cavalry. He is the cavalry.
It’s one of the numerous displays of confidence by Hobbs. The lawman is justified in saying those words because his record speaks for itself. He has taken down numerous bad guys alone in the past. And now that he has Dom’s team, he doesn’t need to bring anyone else.
“I Will Beat You A** Like A Cherokee Drum.”
Luke Hobbs and Owen Shaw have had numerous hilarious verbal exchanges and this quote comes during one such exchange in The Fate Of The Furious. The two find themselves in adjacent cells in a prison and don’t hesitate to taunt each other.
Shaw argues that Hobbs can never beat him in a one-on-one fistfight. Hobbs feels otherwise, arguing that beating Shaw will be as easy as beating a Cherokee drum. Shaw assures him that one day, they’ll prove if that’s true. An arrogant Hobbs tells him that for his own good, he should pray that the day to prove it never comes.
“You Sure As Hell Ain’t The I.T. Guy.”
During one of the early scenes in Furious 7, Hobbs walks into his office at night to find Deckard Shaw accessing files on his computer. He is gathering up information about Dom’s crew so that he can go after them.

Hobbs asks him who he is, making sure to mention that he doesn’t look like an IT guy. Well, he sure doesn’t. Shaw takes his time and after he is done, he and Hobbs engage in fisticuffs. During their fight, they leave plenty of destruction in their wake, leaving the office in a mess.
“I’m What You Call An Ice-Cold Can Of Whoop-a**.”
No one doubts this moment of boasting from Hobbs in Hobbs & Shaw. During his time on the franchise, he has proven that he can indeed beat people up and he can also be cold.
The quote is borrowed from Dwayne Johnson’s days in the WWE. Though he used the phrase a few times, it was mostly credited to his rival Stone Cold Steve Austin.
